Nova Scotia's First Employer Advisor

In her role as Program Manager and Employer Advisor for Nova Scotia, Mary Morris will develop and implement services and resources that will benefit Nova Scotia employers. Producing and hosting workshops, information and training sessions, Mary will assist employers in the areas of occupational health and safety, labour and employment issues and workers’ compensation. As a former Occupational Health and Safety Consultant with Labatt Breweries of Canada, the OEA and Nova Scotia are fortunate to have such a qualified professional piloting this new program.
Her experience spans telecommunications, manufacturing, land development, new home construction, hotels/gaming, aviation, road transportation, to the brewing industry. Most significant to her position as Employer Advisor is her familiarity and knowledge of claim appeals, training and policy and finally, program development.
Mary’s a graduate of Dalhousie University School of Nursing and has worked extensively in the field of Occupational Health and Safety. She continued her studies by becoming certified in Occupational Health Nursing in Canada and also in the United States with the American Board of Occupational Health Nurses. Additionally, she has her CRSP designation with the Canadian Board of Registered Safety Professionals and her CHRP with the Human Resources Association of Nova Scotia. Among her accomplishments the Peer Award of Excellence from HRANS.
Mary has been actively involved in Occupational Health and Safety organizations and committees including past President of the Occupational Health Nurses Association of Nova Scotia; past Board of Director and Treasurer with the Canadian Occupational Health Nurses Association Inc.; past member of the “Complaints Committee” of the College of Registered Nurses of Nova Scotia; past National Chair of the Education Sub Committee of the Canadian Cancer Society; past Chair of the Fall Protection and Scaffolding Curriculum Development Committee; past Board of Director with St. John Ambulance, HRANS (HR Association of Nova Scotia) and past member of the Nova Scotia Dept. of Labour working groups on Occupational Health and Welding regulation.
She continues to sit on the the Board of Directors of Safety Services Nova Scotia and is continually involved in the business community in various capacities. She has co-authored articles on “Drug Testing in the Workplace,” spoken at numerous local and national conferences on topics related to workplace health and safety, disability management, return to work, duty to accommodate and job demands analysis and will continue to do so in her position as Employer Advisor in Nova Scotia.
